Men’s Group FAQs

What are men’s groups for?

Men have sat in ‘circles’ since the dawn of time. Simply, a men’s group is a group of men that come together regularly to hear and support each other. Over the last 35 years the Mankind Project has developed tools and a structure that allows men to share deeply and to encourage and challenge each other compassionately - all with the intent of helping each other establish and pursue their own life purpose and nurture their emotional wellbeing.

What happens in a men’s group?

This varies, depending on the group, and what you as participants decide you want to do! But generally, the activities are based around:

  • Hearing each others thoughts and feelings

  • Exploring not only what you say but also the truth beneath your words;

  • Others remind you of your commitments so you can hold yourself accountable and keep you moving forward towards your aspirations and goals;

  • Men being deeply curious about what it is that makes you tick, what you value, what you are most passionate about in your life;

  • Being encouraged to clarify your vision and provide tools for action and learning that lead you to the life you want.

This is how a ManKind Project men’s group works.

What are the benefits of joining a men’s group?

Here are some of the benefits experienced by those who attend:

  • A sense of connection with others

  • A feeling of being less alone

  • A place to be totally honest about how they are feeling, often for the first time

  • The liberation of being able to share even their inner-most thoughts

  • A way to discover what they are feeling, as most of the time we don’t even know

  • A place to explore our life purpose and direction

  • A feeling that they are taking responsibility, a sense of empowerment over their lives

  • Friendship, community and support

Is there any training available if I want to set up my own men’s group?

Yes, we offer a workshop for men who want to learn how to facilitate their own men’s group which is called “Introduction to Men’s Groups” (ITMG).
